bought this from autojumble for a fiver a few years ago chucked it in a drawer as i already have another 2. dug it out today and had a good look .its heavy and solid looks like home made .it has a guys name on it and says made in 1950 even the moor and wright ones hasnt a patch on it there all flimsy. this one isnt

probably but its bloody good puts the newer bought ones to shame on quality . im left handed so when i scribe they usualy flex from right to left
from right hand to left

I made one of them as an apprentice . Along with a micrometer stand and a tap wrench. I still have the tap wrench, used it just a few days ago in fact, it’s nearly 50 years old now.

If it has ‘3’ stamped on it, then it’s mine. For some reason we all had a number to identify our experiments, not our name.

Which reminded me of the young guy who joined my company as an apprentice, a year behind me. His parents gave him a M&W 1” micrometer as an xmas gift.

He stamped his name on the frame….

In 1976 my dad gave me the same, the one in pearl chrome. In 1978 a moron working at the same place as me defaced it with an engraver, a hooked cross was engraved on it, badly. There will never be any forgiveness for Mr Duncan Worsley, not even 46 years later.

At school: Conical screwjacks x4, jenny caliper, centre finder, toolmakers clamps x2, centre punches, 1/2" drive ratchet. I wish I still had some of it, I think I have the centre finder and the toolmakers clamps, the rest is gone. The ratchet was especially funny, it was massive and weighed a ton, the ratchet wheel must have been no more than 28 clicks, not so useful.
