Screwing nuts on threaded bar AFTER cutting?

Whenever I have cut threaded bar, whether it is with an angle grinder or a hacksaw, I always struggle to get a nut to screw on the end afterwards. Is there a way to increase the chance of this being possible, or at least easier?

I`m going to cut some 12mm very soon (this evening). I am putting nuts on both ends. The nut on the "cut end" will need to go on & off at times. Thanks.

Put the nut on first, then when you have cut it unscrew it & it will take the burr with it

With a file or grinder bevel the edge of the rod. The last thread will have a burr on it from cutting.

As Weldequip says screw a nut on before cutting it and it cleans up the end of the thread, if you forget to do this a touch with a file helps.

You need to deburr the end after cutting, a quick whizz on a abrasive wheel will be just fine

if the thread is small enough to fit in a drill chuck I find you can hold a nice consistent angle against the file

although a quick touch and it should be fine without the drill

put the nut on it first, then chamfer the end on a bench grinder after, THEN wind the nut off. The burr will be gone and you'll have a nice finished end thereon after.

Clean up the raggy end of the thread with your thumbnail then put a polish on it with your chin stubble

Then sit on an upturned V8 engine block and drink beer from an old hub cap.

Cut it, then chamfer the edge slightly with a sanding pad.

threading the nut on to line up with the cut beforehand,gives a nice guide and minimises thread distortion

Thanks for all the replies. I think I`m going to go with this one, but I`m out of hub caps at the moment. There`s always an obstacle.

I regularly do batches of 100 stst studs on the britan proddy lathe at work. I always just linisha small chamfer on each end and we have never had a problem.
