Not Scrapheap challenge but a mate of mine did a similar thing for channel 5 and BBCs panic mechanics. 'Set up' is an understatement from the stories i've heard, nothing is allowed to interfere with or impact the way the show looks when it airs- not the 'rules' of the challenge, nothing

Hi,

I'd like to have a go but I'm not interested in rushing it at the last minute. It also annoys me that one team can grab all of the motors, for instance, and the other team are struggling to finish their build.

It'd be better, IMO, if each team had their own patch and the kit wasn't 'hidden'.

I've read in other forums (Hovercraft UK) that if a team needs something specific then they ask the crew and go out in the yard a bit later and the item has mysteriously appeared.

I would have thought that there should be more than enough experience within the forum to have a 'team' go into the contest.

in the new scrap heap challenge they dont go hunt for stuff anymore.. they are given a budget and then shop around tem selves and each team does the build from home. but yeh its still a set up.

Not interested in participating but if I did it would be under the old format - I don't like what they have done to the show

I know three who have been on and won the series once (poss twice) quite a while ago, and another mate was an 'expert' one time recently. In the early days things were planted around the scrapyard; probably necessary to get things built.
Bound to be a bit fixed up, but sounds maybe more so now than when mateys were in it. Bound to be times when builds don't work out or teams don't gel etc etc.
They had fun though, must have done to stay in at least 2 series.

Like American Hot Rod and prob others. There was one car on that, the usual "we must build this before we got up yesterday" bullshine, not long after it aired on TV here the car was on American ebay with pics over it's 3 year build or somesuch period...

I did apply a couple of years ago, but the stumbling block: it takes 4 days to film an episode and if you get through to the final, 5 heats. I could not afford 20days away from work. Mind you the 4 days per episode just shows how realistic the one day build is. But I guess it's fairly obvious that you could not film 10 hour work in 10 hours. W/A

Myself and a couple of mates put together the 'entrance' video a few years back but all we got was a standard form letter saying 'thanks but no thanks', didn't even get the bloody vid back.

Then there's 'Banger Rallies'... if you ever fancy doing Home 2 Rome, don't waste your money. At least, don't pay that fat poof and his mates £200 to swan around Europe in a Mustang, blatantly failing to deliver anything that they promise in the blurb...
