Summer isn't really the time to visit the west of Scotland - can well see why those little blighters kill off the tourist industry. Apart from them it's a fantastic place.

I don't think a bit of cold will put any sort of dent in their numbers. I spent the best part of my childhood holidays on the west coast of Scotland. I have seen that many midges dead on the floor the morning after it looked like someone had, had a fit while opening a massive tea caddy.

While on the subject. Avon Skin so soft (a hand and body moisturiser ) is the best midge/mozzy replant ever.
