Scooters? buying advice needed.

Not for me idiots.
Mrs C want to get more mobile and has decided to go for a scooter.
I have put her off the 50cc models.
i figure that brings her barely up the food chain, from vermin on a pushbike to being a food product.
She has agreed that a 125 is a better bet. She has survived her CBT and wants a scoter not a bike.
We want something simple and reliable, so no classic Vespa's.
I have been reccomended by a scooter fiend I know to go for a Vespa LX125.
They seem pricey but I would rather pay a bit more for decent wheels with a view to resale value.
I looked at some cheapo chinese efforts, then read the reviews. That was an easy decision.
I am confused bt the Vespa/Piaggo relationship. Piaggo seem to be cheaper but also look to be almost identical.
Any advice gratefully recieved.
Budget is around the £1000 mark.
Scooter girl is excited.

the piggio zip 125 is a decent unit from what i hear. i did 12000 km on my zip 50 and only issue was a alternator changed under warranty

My sister in law bought a new 125 Vespa 12 years ago, used it a few times a week to commute about 3 miles to her part time job.
Sold it a few months ago, as she now works from home, for more than she paid for it originally!

get an Honda cg 125,plus with them,is classic insurance,and no other bike is as reliable,good on petrol to.

4 stroke or 2 stroke? Your choice in this will make a big difference to what's available

4 stroke is best, cant run out of 2 stroke oil, 2 stroke, far simpler engine less moving parts, lol you know if it breaks down its your fault lol

Get her a Honda Innova, reliable and frugal although not the prettiest. An old Honda 90 Cub would be an investment, they are going up in price now.

Fourstroke seems the way to go.
CG125? great idea, Her wants a scooter.

I know an old boy who just bought a new equivalent, the vendors offered to get rid of his old one.

any jap fourstroke is a good bet. I have had bith 2 and 4 stroke scooters to mess about on (still maintain they are more fun to wheelie than a proper bike) and the fourstrokes are far more reliable. have had a few Chinese ones and they just cant cope with being used for anything other than an ornament.

my brother currently has a bergman (spelling) and that is a cracking little thing. his is a 400 but im sure they do a 125

I have a very nice 2004 MBK [Yamaha] Ovetto100 2 stroke twist & go. I have mechanically refurbished it, new battery exhaust, good tyres runs nice. Just a few scratches. Reliable runaround. Yours for £495, this is cheap.
