Scaling up projects

I have a 3D wire fish that i want to replicate on a larger scale (48 inches by approx 36 inches). Its currently about 14 by 11 inches. How do i go about enlarging this item without a plan to work with. Im assuming that someone would have done this before and could possibly shed some light on some tips to make this as painless as possible.

haven't done this before but, i would take photo and write the dimensions on it for referance and then mutiply them in your case by 3 = 42"x33", i'd also start at the tail.

One way is to use thin graph paper. Trace photo. The redraw using scale factor i.e 3 boxes=1 original. You can do a decent job just connecting points.

Best is an overhead projector. Hang big sheet of paper and trace it.

Some CAD packages can import pictures. I had use that, import pic, trace with vectors, then select all and scale to size.

just like shenion mentioned, divide it up into sections, say an inch square, then use you scale factor, eg 3:1 then draw 3" squares out on your garage floor (or piece of sheet ply or similar.
Then just draw each square at a time. Crude, but easy and effective,

You could use a pantograph to magnify it.
You can make one, to any size and magnification you like.

Many thanks for the great ideas lads. The graph paper and Overhead projector seem to be the way to go for this project. I hadnt even thought about the Pantograph option either.
