Hi Yea,

I've been doing a bit of repair work on damage repairable vehicles and have suddenly reached the need to get something to weld body panels and in trying to figure out what to get I have come across this site.

I have an old Arch Welder and have always done a bit a welding, more as a hobby than anything else and want something suitable for occasional use on lighter stuff.

Any suggestions would be great??

BTW I have seen a Second Hand SIP 195 TopMig for sale locally and was going to have a look but there seems to be a lot of bad press on here about this machine

The bigger SIP machines aren't so bad, it's the little 130/150 amp machines that come in for some stick.

So would recon the SIP 195 would be worth a punt???

I've just seen the PORTAMIG 165 MIG Welder on the Weld Eq section on this site and that looks like it ticks all my boxes, albeit a little over my budget. What do you guys think of that machine??

I think both machines may well do you fine, though as with any second hand equipment even the best makes can become poor machines due to not being looked after.

With second hand there is a fairly simple solution, go and have the seller prove to you the machine performs well, that eliminates a lot of the risk of buying used.
