Satellite cable end fitting removal.

I want to remove one or both of the fittings shown below to fit a wall pate and make the installation a bit neater.



I can’t see how these are held in place though. I can get the black / grey bit to rotatate, but no amount of ‘persuasion’ seems to make them want to leave the cable and I’d rather not resort to butchering them off.

I assume there’s a knack to doing this - could someone enlighten me please?

Just hold the cable & turn the fitting anticlockwise, they screw on to the outer sheath.

They are these things mate, you will find it very hard to dismantle, that is why I like them the customer can not mess with them unlike the screw in ones.

some of them are crimp on .if so cut them off and get screw on ones

Yes, Sorry didnt notice the little nylon locking collar, only ever used the screw on type.

These are often used to tidy up pre made cable that come out of wall boxes.

Yes I know, it was the first video I found that showed that type of connector.

I'd just chop them off, you only lose about 15mm of cable.

They are Snap an Seal types. You can only cut them off, they are not re-useable. Replace them with screw on types. If you find yourself in Gloucester, I will give you a couple and a leaflet to show how to fit them. Otherwise I can post some to you.

The other option you have is to fit a pair of line couplers into a blanking plate. Then you can connect what you have and will need a pair of F to F leads the other side.

This is exactly what I would be looking at doing. That cable looks like the thinner 65 cable rather than 100 but it may not be exactly the same size so finding a replacement screw on F plug with a good fit may not be easy.

Yes indeed but without other information I was assuming the excess could either be lost in a partition wall, av cupboard, ceiling/floor void or if all else fails chop a 50mm backbox in (joking)

If the excess cannot be hidden and the cable is slightly different to standard F screw ons then I guess the other alternative is to make an entire cable. I have a F crimper and a good supply of crimps from a previous job so i just make my own.

Not always a good idea, you loose a bit of signal with every joint, I'd much rather have one piece of coax with just an F-plug on each end and nothing else. Mind you I've a 80m run of cable to get to my dish so every little helps.

post 6 is the best option fit a back box in wall then fit the front plate on with the brush opening. less joints
