Sanding belt length tolerances

Whilst tidying I found some sanding belts, measuring the outside they are between 540mm and 537mm, neither of which I can find. I can find 533mm, that seems more of a difference than I'd expect. I measured the outside, not the inside, they don't feel that thick that should make much of a difference.

Maybe they are 2mm thick, depending on particle size. I don't have anything that they fit so I can check against manufacturers' specs.

Thoughts anyone?

It will made a big enough difference to matter. I know as I measured some the same way... they didnt fit the sander when they turned up

Go and watch a few of the Engels Coach shop videos on YT. See how he measures wheel circumferences and then transfers that measurement to the steel tyre. He uses a wheelwright's traveller. You can use the same method to measure the inside of the belt (count how many full revolutions plus a part rev.). Transfer that measurement to a flat surface and use a ruler.

At 2mm thick, the outside will be a little over 6mm longer than the inside (2 pi mm), which I presume is where the length measurement is normally taken (it would otherwise be necessary to spec a shorter belt for finer grits than for coarser grits).

533 mm plus 2 pi mm is about 539.3mm, inside your measurement range. I suspect you are overthinking things.

533mm is 21", standard size or am I missing the point here
