Sandblasting advice

Hi all I'm new here my names Scott and I need some advice so I'm looking at buying a compressor for sandblasting my budget is £400 I understand you can't get much for the price I've seen a few I will list them below I need one that will plug into a house socket I'm unsure if any of these will fit apologies as I'm a newby and it's all new to me I'm wanting to sand blast under a car if anyone know of the best compressor for the job and within the price please let me know tia

I find tank capacity makes little difference - unless you keep starting and stopping of course. Use a big pressure pot style anyway.
My Clarke 14cfm 3hp 50L just about copes but obviously very slow.
Those new twin pump look interesting and pretty cheap for what they are.
For any serious sand blasting you need far bigger.

It is very easy to install a 16amp blue socket anyway. One of the many electricians on here will advise i am sure.

FAD is the real air output, CFM is a no losses calculated figure. Remember there's always losses.
I found sand slow even using a road comp. and a Clemco pot. After 2 uses it's blunt and then you have to dispose of it and get more etc frankly it's back breaking.
There's a thread on here somewhere about a gummed up quiet comp, don't overdo the run time.

I think you want to be looking for good used equipment within your budget. And the biggest compressor you can afford. These are mine:

Best: tandem compressor. 230v 32 amp supply.



Or at minimum a 200L SIP, sealey Clarke or similar runs on standard 13 amp plug:



For my blast cabinet I use the tandem compressor which can run it continuously at full blast. The single pump 200L would not keep up so would have to stop occasionally.

Actual air is usually better than maths. Some adverts occasionally list both so you can see the difference.

You have indicated blasting "under a car"

So I can presume large areas and possibly a pressure pot.

In this case like my suggestion of a tandem compressor above then it's 18 FAD minimum you want. Anything less you'll have to stop and start all the time and it will be a painful process.

Good used is what you want - if in England you should be able to find a used tandem compressor for around your £400 budget.

I would like to buy a new welder- any recommendations? Flux core or gas?

the minimum for trouble free blasting is with a 3,0mm jet and a couple of 14cfm comps linked or a twin setup
