Safety question

Hi,

I'm a rookie welder and don't plan on being professional as I'm not very good at it. I can do mig welding on small things around the farm but that's about it.
I recently had a boat dock built with a closet hanging to the outside (see example photo.) Everything went with the dock except that the the closet was not finished. It will cost me a lot of money to have the builder come back with the barge to finish what he was already paid to do.. long story short. I will be welding the missing braces and finishing up the closet using my MIG and 10K Generator.

... But, I have never welded on water floating structure, in a very humid area. Is it safe to perform the welding in these conditions? Any tips or advise you can provide are greatly appreciated.

yes. Keep your earth clamp on the bit you are welding and you will be fine. Just don't drop the welder in the water...or the generator, they don't like swimming

wearing rubber gloves under your welding garntlets is allways a good idea incase your gloves get wet, you shouldnt get a shock

No -I welded on board a ship at sea and in rain and spray, what you might need to watch is falling in as you can get disorientated behind the mask so I always had a safety harness on and hung on to summat with my free hand, or got a mate to hang on to me, if there is a swell on the water you just ride it with your legs-this is where you might need to mate to hang on to you as you may have to use both hands to steady the torch. You should have a mate along however you tackle the job.
Is your MIG kit up to doing the job though? -presume you will use gasless 0.9?
