Just mix some lemon juice up with flour so it thickens a bit, dollop on and wang some cling film over the top. I've got the bilt and hammer stuff but if I didn't I would do that as it will do more or less exactly the same job.

I said lemon juice earlier when someone mentioned citric acid. And they said no?!

It works, molasses is the best home brew stuff but lemon juice works fine.

I found some stuff today called Jenolite that sounds similar to the deox gel. But you can get it in tiny tubes. Anyone used that?

Jenolite leaves a phosphated finish.

I have used jenolite and it encapsulates and stabilises the rust with a phosphate surface like most converters, I have used this method on some small scabs on a car I have owned for over twenty years and they have not come back through but I did treat and seal both sides and car is only used in the summer,

Any old lemon juice will do, cheap stuff in a bottle should be fine.

Cheers for all the info and ideas guys I have taken slim boy fat up on his offer but good to know what other things work for future reference. Regarding the jenolite I must say I am not entirely sure what a phosphated surface means and why it is not an ideal solution? I am presuming it converts the rust to something that is not going to corrode more rather than dissolving it completely away? Been a while since I have done chemistry! Bit of google reading I think!

It does dissolve (although I'm not sure completely as some is converted to the phosphate), but the phosphate surface can present problems with some primers that contain their own etching chemicals. I just prefer to dissolve it completely back to sound metal then use epoxy primer.
