Rust inhibitor/protection for parts?

There are a lot of rust protection products on the market, but they all seem to be permanent or semi permanent. Anyone know of or recommend something for spraying onto steel parts for storage which can then be washed off or dissolves in oil?

Things like cranks, cams etc that need protection in storage but not once in use.

I've been using similar which is OK, but I'd like to use something a bit more sticky or waxy and shove whatever it is in a bag.

For things of reasonable size, maybe VCI paper (re-usable) and a ziplock bag (or maybe a vacuum bag - the plastic comes as a tube and you length it to suit).

Even if you use a spray-on product, putting the item into a bag will be a much less variable atmosphere than on an open shelf.

The only Rocol stuff I could see was 'proper' rust protection that isn't designed to be washed off.

The problem with leaving stuff in the open is that whatever is on it gets rubbed off or smears other stuff.

The sort of thing I'm after is the stuff they use to pack engineering bits for example. Chucks, jaws, centres and the like. When they come in a box they're coated in a sticky substance that's more of a coating than liquid.

I might have what you need, it's a paint on solution and washes off, it was intended for coating gearbox parts for storage. I have a 25 ltr drum of the stuff, I'll have a look and get some details from the label later today if you're interested.
