Running a 5 pin 3 phase machine on a 4 pin phase converter

Hi guys,

Had a look online and couldn’t find a for sure answer.

I’m looking at a machine that has a 5 pin plug and my phase converter only has 4 pin sockets.
Is it as simple as wiring a 4 pin plug without the neutral? Or is there more to it than that?

I’m potentially buying it at distance, so other than pictures I won’t be able to inspect it…..risky.

As far as I can see there isn’t anything that would require the neutral, as in something 240v.

Simple answer is if it requires a neutral then you need 5 pin so you will have to find out whether it does or not. Can you not look up manufactures site for data?

Look up the wiring diagram, plenty of machines only have 4 wires but a 5-pin plug gets fitted to match the sockets in the workshop.

Although there are also plenty of machines that use all 5!

There are also 5 pin wall outlet with no neutral connected.
At work for example we have 5 pin wall outlet.
None have neutral .
They have not the same rotation either

so someones dropped a bollock and just stuck the wires in and mixed the phases up phase rotators are cheap enough to test the sockets for correct sequence. if some machines arent correct and run backwards it can severely damage them

It’s been confirmed that the machine only requires 3 pin and earth.
