Router table hoist

I use my table router quite a lot and it drives me mad crawling around on the floor trying to get the height right.
I looked on the internet at commercial lift thingies and screamed at the prices.
Looked at the home made versions and laughed at some of them. beautifully made hand cut wooden gears, all sorts of weirdness.
Then cycling to work I saw a car jack in the hedge got to work and chucked it in a corner. Found it a few weeks later and thought hmm it go up and it go down.
So I did a brutal lashup intending it to be a temporary thing.

Perfick.
The only problem is not winding it up too far and lifting the workbench.
The log is bolted to the floor.

Wow. That is a question of 'doing the job' or enjoying the method of doing the job. Depends on how you cost your time.

My router table is set up with a suicide jack as a depth adjuster - easy to use and saves putting my chest on the small table, holding the depth gauge and trying to get it right and then pushing the router against its spring and trying to lock it in the right place which I did a lot of before putting the jack in. Have since bought a router with a fixed and plunge base and it was well worth the money, but my old one still sits in its table - waiting to find a nice bit of ali plate to make a table for the new one.

When I saw Chunko's post, I thought of the woodgears guy - nice that you thought of him too.

Amazing it of kit - what I like about it is that while I could spend a donkeys age getting each wood joint perfect with no fillers, I can rough out a template, fix it with fillers and route away until my hearts content getting sexy joints very quickly.

how long will the router last though, oh chunky one
do you lock the router at the set height or do you leave the pressure on the plastic cover on the end of the router

I do use the built in lock to hold it when I a using or I think it could vibrate a bit.
How long will it last? Green Bosch? probably a while.
I think I saw the woodgears one somewhere else. Crackers but impressive.
