rounded off nuts help /ideas

see the 4x nuts on mateys video@12.29? well ive rounded the 2 front ones off a treat and theyre tight , bolt grippers wont touch it , nut splitter didnt split it , ive put a cut down the side with a grinder and was hoping vice grips would turn it

any ideas please , dont have access to a welder at the moment

studs are part of the car and ideally need to be saved

You might want to put at what time matey plays with his nuts, as 44 minutes to see what you are talking about is a stretch.

Nice big flange on them ( ) - can you tap them round with a punch?

A bit of heat would help, but not much as there’s rubber there. What about cutting some flats on the flanges and beating round with a blunt chisel? Looks like some sort of threadlocker, so once shocked loose they should come off.

Animal but cant you just smash a undersized imperial socket or a E socket onto the rounded nuts and have them out?

As above, hammer on a snug 6 point socket or get the next size down 12 point metric / imperial / whitworth socket (whatever doesn’t quite fit) and really hammer it on. Should grip it enough to undo it

Edit, if they are mega tight, run a slitting disc down one edge, that’ll release it plus the heat will help. Obviously, proceed with the above in addition…

Ok, but if you could shock the washer round, it would at least break that bond to the mating surface. Every little helps, and all that.

What about two vertical cuts down either side of the nut, to make flats for mole grips?

If you don’t have any other sockets, slit two opposite flats off the nuts, right through and chisel the remaining bits off. Looks like there’s good access

You need a close fitting hex socket not bi-hex. and some Aluminium cut from a drinks can. Cut a piece of can just big enough to go around the nut and hammer on the socket, the ally will deform before the socket gets damaged and unscrew.

Irwin / Snap On make a set of sockets for getting rounded bolts out. Not particularly expensive either.

1. Everyone needs a set of single hex impact sockets and a blowlamp.
2. Sometimes it pays to tighten a stroppy bolt / nut first
3. if a bolt or stud goes all springy on you it's going to break.

rounded them off with a 12 point on an impact lol , since tried the 6 sided and bolt grippers and no go

Wire brush threads still proud, heat each nut with MAP gas torch or similar. looks like they have thread lock from factory.
Then only hope is what most have suggested above.
Slow & painful method. Get dremmel. cut each nut down both side then use chisel to split them.
It works, its just mind numbingly slow.

yes have them all , wont bite the nuts seem soft and theyre done up tight

What about taking the nut off the gearbox rubber mount and then lowering gearbox so you can get to the mount bolts thus leaving the part you can't get off in situ ?
