Round copper table tops

Hi there,

I keep getting asked to produce round copper table tops, which i have done around 10 of upto now. We are using 0.4mm copper sheet bonded onto plywood with a small radius which gets routered.

They go on and look ok at the end but wondering if there is any sort of machine with a roller head on that would make the job simpler. At the moment i am using mallets and panel beating hammers to slowly get the copper to fold around the edges.

It doesnt seem like the orders for them are stopping so im thinking if i could buy a machine or build one it may make it a little easier.

The photo attached is one off google, not one we have produced they look a lot better finish than mine. But gives an idea of what i am after.

Any help would be appreciated.

If that was mny job and I was actually making money from it, as opposed to just treading water with the work I would be thanking my lucky stars and working lates to get them done.

Are you annealing the copper half way through as you are going along, it would make a big difference to it's workability.
As @tom2207 metal spinning would work but you are going to need a powerful machine if they are going to be of any size and copper work hardens faster than anything.

I would have throught a bead roller with suitable rollers and some care would do it?

table size you will have issues with them to clamp the copper down while you spin to form it

Could a tyre fitting machine be modified to roll over the edges?

A Swager with the correct rollers will do that.

if you swage the tops first , and made them say 1/4 inch larger than the wooden base you could just fill the underside of the copper with two pack epoxy , then bung the wood in , it would fill all the gaps round the edges and bond the whole thing together at the same time , weight it all up and let it set ,,, make for a fast and simple process .
