Rotary Phase Converter Wiring

Hi
I have just bought a rotary phase converter off the internet and when it turned up it has no wiring on it. It is a 15hp motorun converter. It is labeled inside for the wires to the pilot motor and the 3 phase out put, but nothing for the single phase input.

Does anyone know where the single phase should be wired into

It also has two red wires going to nowhere, these look like someone has added them in?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

Before anyone can even start to work that out you are going to need a better photo showing the wiring arrangement to the transformer.

Motorun are still in business, and are very helpful. If you phone them and give details of what you have I am sure they will provide a wiring diagram if they have one. I have one of their converters, and they couldnt have been more helpful with some questions I had.

I contacted them and they gave me a wiring diagram but it just said about wiring it up to the isolator on the out side of the box, but mine has not got any of that

The only place i can see for wires to go is in the two block connectors in picture 3. I still cant work out what the two big red wires are doing.

I will take some better pictures and upload them later

Why not take some pics and send them to Motorun? They might be the best people to provide accurate info?

Ok, so i sent a email to motorun and got a very helpful reply back telling me what wires are the live neutral and earth.

This is a copy of the email :

" Thanks for the pictures, you will see in one of the pictures you have two Red leads
The longer one is your L. for your single phase input you will notice the Yellow phase
is linked to it, the other lead is your N. you will see this is connected to the Black lead
which goes to the N. on the output, you should have a 40Amp “C” trip on the 230v 1
phase supply, the bal.motor should be in Delta, A,B,C, go to the three phases, earth
to the case.

For any 400/420v control gear use the RED & YELLOW phases, for 230v control
Gear use the YELLOW phase & N.(Black).
When you turn on the Convertor the bal.motor should reach full speed in approx.
3-4 secs. the contactors in the Convertor should changeover & 400/440v should be
across phases, DO NOT use the Blue to N. as voltage will be approx.. 350v, hope
this helps. "

Now i know what everything does, i can start wiring it up. However im not sure what he means by "40amp c trip" is this just what i need it wiring too in the house fuse box?

Example of 40A C curve MCB here but you will need the correct type to fit your fusebox

Unless you're confident working with mains electrics, it's best to get a qualified sparky in.
