rotary isolator

bought a rotary isolator to fit in my garage where supply enters. this is for the compressor only, 10mm twin and earth, 40a rcd protected mcb on consumer unit. opened up the switch and it is a 3 phase one. could i just use one of the phases or do i need a double pole, single phase jobby and if so where would i get one?

just use 2 of the conections it doesnt matter which. it will probably have 3 conections lL 1 lL 2 lL 3 and A neutral BAR so use L 1 LIVE AND L 2 NEUTRALTHROUGH THE SWITCH

Depending on the bs number on the isolator it might not be rated for switching on load and most compressor need to be switched on the pressure switch

it would be switched through a pressure switch to cut out when full as long as the presure switch can handle the current otherwise it would be run through a contact starter and presure switch the isolator is just to isolate .not use as a switch

the isolator is just to turn the power off at point of entry inside the garage. there will also be a 32 amp industrial plug downstream of switch, next to the compressor, which will also serve as a power supply for my welder. only one appliance being able to be used at a time. if that makes any sense.

great np just one point what is the rating of your compresor as u are putting a 40 amp mcb back at mains and comp with a3hp motor will only require a 16 or a 20 amp mcb

it's a twin pot clarke jobby, 29cfm, says 30 amp min in book. believe you have the same one. consumer unit came with that mcb already fitted so just used it as i'm a tight git.

whats 10 amp between friends then undoubtedly i will be criticised for saying it lol 30 amp min so there is a max next size up is 40 if its wylex or volex ive got loads of breakers il send u one free
