It's just a question of travel speed to get a smooth arc and a consistent bead without undercutting and keeping good penetration without getting a bit warm on the other side as you say.
Put a 30 degree bevell on each plate and a root face of around 2mm, tack your plates together with a root gap of at least 2mm.
Set your parameters to a good crisp dip transfer mode, probably around the same as you would use for sheetmetalwork, might be worth running on the lowest inductance setting as well.
Strike up on the end tack and keep your wire right in the middle of the joint, keep the wire on the front edge of the weld pool, do not weave, if you start to blow through slow down a bit but don't let the weldpool get in front of the wire
