rolling flat stock round - making a wheel

Hi to all.
I'm thinking about my next flower vase carrier.
This time it will be a small wheel barrow.

The problem is the wheel.
I would like to do it in steel, rolling to size a 30x5mm flat.
Is there a simple way to do it, or it's better if I start searching for a
local artisan with the right roller?

I hope the attached image can give you an idea of what I thought.

I'd just cut 30mm off a length of 168.3 x 5 CHS...

As already mentioned, Draw your chalk/marker circle the dia that you want and bend between 2 pins in small increments til it matches the drawing, will bend easily cold,

A while back I made a small penny farthing with one wheel 660 mm dia and one at 220 mm diameter. I have a short piece of RSJ (I beam) about 5" X 4" and layed it on it's side so the flanges were facing upwards, and bent the 8mm rod into a circle by hitting the rod between the flanges with a hammer as evenly as I could until it formed the circle size I needed. I didn't hit it hard, just kept working my way around it a few times. I was amazed at how well and accurate it turned out.

forgot about this method, if you dont have pins for the vice you can either open the jaws a small bit and use the same method or open them right up and hit the bar like this with the bar resting on top and hit between the jaws

forgot about this method, if you dont have pins for the vice you can either open the jaws a small bit and use the same method or open them right up and hit the bar like this with the bar resting on top and hit between the jaws

I've used this method and it works OK!

If you fancy making some rollers to do this, there's a write up in this months Model Engineers' Workshop magazine of someone making a set to roll 1" x ¼" bar into wheels.

Just checked, and it's a two part article - Dec 2015 (preview) and Jan 2016 issues.

The idea is appealing, but the sad story (very very sad), is that I don't own (in random order):
- lathe
- mill
- bench drill

So to make one I should design all and outsource it (not so cost effective).
Or try to make it with a welder and a grinder (not so precise).

Damn the low hobby budget.

I did the same thing with 16 mm M/S bar, i was surprised it formed a near perfect ring for a gate.
