Roller doors?

Anything to look out for when buying a large roller door for domestic garage. Is the tube motor not as good as the external motor?
Will the pvc quickly rub off and rust in the sides.
I was thinking single skin. Its a 10ft door and 1 company said they wouldn't put single skin on that size of door. Others have said better with an industrial type door galvanised and others say it'll rattle like mad. Its a lot of money so wanna try and get it right first time.

I have one on the workshop, about 6M wide, insulated aluminium, tube motor, been installed about 10 years now. No issues whatsoever, nice and quiet. Cost about £1200 installed from a local firm.
Powder coated in white, still looks great and like new if I actually wash it.

Used to have galvanised (with tube motor) at previous house, quite noisy and a bit floppy considering it was only 3M wide.

I’ll have a look at mine, think it’s about 10ft maybe a bit less - single skin but quiet in operation and doesn’t rattle, draft free - I do need to have a clean out of the ends though as I’m getting a little water through underneath but the builders seem to have sloped the concrete very slightly the wrong way so it runs into rather than away from the door - but that’s not a door problem, its a builder one! Not sure on motor type but never had any probs with it in 3-4 years.

Getting it set right is important so I understand, it needs to squish all the sections together to ensure it’s rattle free but not so much to put undue strain on the mechanism.

We had one fitted in the late 80's, white insulated, 2m wide & tall. It does rattle in the high winds but not too bad normally.
Mechanically it's been fine (crikey its been about 33yrs now )
but the electrickery had to be changed about 25yrs ago (?) when the uk radio-licensing (?) changed and we had to upgrade to 433 mhz signal remotes.
And it's been fine and dandy ever since

Ours didn't come with any sliding bolts for extra security - might want to ensure you get some of those, to resist oiks who might want to try levering the door up...
The downside of those being that you've got to go into the garage to unbolt them before you can trigger the remote opening...

Easy trick to stop roller shutter doors rattling and banging in the wind, make sure that they have a bit of downward pressure on the slats when they are closed, go just a bit further on the stop point adjustment and they go quiet!

the prev owner got a firm in to repair the door....they used a 50 ft/lbs motor.....torque
should have been at least 75....it's got a dead spot now so when I change it will go up to 100.....
had to cobble the wiring up as the transmiter thingy has stopped working....
no idea how to fix it,
now have a twin light switch...one for up and the other for down....
there's a €100 call out charge here for the first 1/2hr.....in the wrong job me thinks....

Look at the headroom that you loose to the box where the door rolls into. Varies a lot between makes but precluded me from using one at home as left opening too small to get Land-Rover in. Only option that I had was a segmented door that rolls up a track but this then killed a lot of useable space above it. Rebuilding the garage soon so hopefully will be able to incorporate a decent door.
