M Mr shiney Member Messages 1,241 Oct 9, 2013 #1 I have been using my Oxy/Acetylene kit for brazing and cutting mostly and heating. I would like to have a go at gas welding with it. What do I need in the way of filler rods? Best source for them?

brightspark Member Messages 41,367 Location yarm stockton on tees Oct 9, 2013 #4 there only filler rods the blowpipe size dictates the thickness of metal to be welded. filler rods 1.6mm and 2,5mm

M Mr shiney Member Messages 1,241 Oct 9, 2013 #5 Ok thanks for that. I have a fill set of nozzles. So would 1.6mm be ok for having a play with say 3mm? It's more for fun than any practical use. I have MIG and TIG but have always fancied a go at gas welding and have the kit.

I use the thicker rods and a number 2 tip for everything now as they are easier to hold as well. (Also good for making hooks to hang painted parts on )
