Rodding eye?

I lifted a paving slab and found this under it. Is it an old school rodding eye? It heads off a 45 degree angle towards the house however there is no plumbing at that side of the house.

It looks completely blocked.

Any thoughts other than cover it back up and forget about it.

At a guess, it is a drain from a previous incarnation of that area. As it was covered up, it can’t have been too important.

I dunno as I’m not a plumber or a pandoras pipe specialist!

When I’ve found stuff like that before in previous houses, and a Toby box which I think is defunct here, I’ve just covered it over and forgotten about it, but…. Done it in such a way that it’s easy-ish to get at if something rears it’s head in the future.

Well I am planning to dig out the rope edging so I may as well did down a bit further and find out what's there.

My Mrs was wanting me to square off the planting area to make a veg plot, but don't really want her digging into the pipe.

I have come across drainage pipes like this sticking up in gardens with a forward facing air vent fitted on the top (usually near a front wall) looking like a periscope. The other end ran into the underfloor space in houses with wood floors for extra ventilation but yours looks to terminate in an unlikely spot for this.

The house has lots of air bricks round the base of the walls going into the basement so it's probably not that.

This is another weird thing on the front garden wall. No idea what's down there.

Did house have outside toilet once? I have similar pipe like that from a long gone bog - I just stuffed a plastic bottle in it to keep out crud as it still connects to sewer, but covered it up - really ought to do proper seal in it one day…

If there is, it's also been hidden/covered over in the past.

Well I dug it out and it was connected to nothing.

I proded around the bottom of the pipe but couldn't find any connection.

So dug it out.

Someone went to a lot of bother to put it in.

Need to go and buy a new sledgehammer, loaned the last one out and never got it back.

What's a good weight, not too light and not too heavy for general breaking.
