I'd have thought you could use whatever you want and what works for you.
I like a 1.2 rod and 2.4 tungsten for the bits and pieces i weld up.
Tungsten size has more to do with a the amount of amps required than the size of the filler rod.
Thanks for all the help guy's I have one of THESE Paul that I sometimes use, getting it to rotate can sometimes be a bit hit and miss, depends on the grade of the wheel, have been thinking about using a pin vice instead![]()

i was going to get one of them don't think i will now
You lot must have fat fingers, I just twissle* it. When they get that short 40mm or less, They are kept for using in the short end cap. And then I use either a pin vice or a battery drill
Yup same as, I've not found any gadgets better than my fingers.
Sadly I have fingers like bananas, after years of beating em with hammers and spanner use....![]()

and me have had enough of the spanner rash when it slips and you take your knuckles off. lol
all tho building hot rods and race cars was the best job i have had the only time i enjoyed going in to work
