Road Hawk camera-anyone got/used one?

I have been looking at the Road-Hawk camera website. It is a very informative site and I found it quite interesting.

There seems to be 4 different camera models available, each one a bit more expensive as you go up in spec.

I phoned up and spoke to guy who was well-informed and knew his stuff. I did however get the impression that he was "pushing" the base model, but was left unsure why that was.

Has anyone got one of these cameras in their vehicle? Does anyone have any unbiased advice etc.

A work colleaague of mine has one and he thinks it's great, not sure which model he has but the most useful feature he thinks it has is the parking mode where it records if someone comes near the car or if there is a bump to the car.

Video quality is good as well.

Mine's quite old now (RoadHawk RH1) so things might have improved with newer models.

Not much use on unlit roads at night and the high resolution setting can be a bit jittery on playback (or maybe that's down to the SD card I have).

I have mine set to a medium res picture quality and streaming seems fine although again in dark conditions making out the number plates of oncoming vehicles can be hard.

For the parking mode you will need a permanent live feed I believe.

Watching playback of some numpty cutting you up can be fun though and if ever somebody takes off your wing mirror and just carries on regardless (this happened to me) at least you have some evidence. Also if someone rolls back into (again happened to unlucky me) you can prove that they were at fault etc.

This is why I bought one, but nothings happened to me since (typica!)

There's lots of samples of RoadHawks on YouTube which pretty much sums it up, nice gadget to plug in and forget that maybe invaluable some day

Ha, that is pretty epic, however, if I had been the customer, I would not have put it on Youtube but got free servicing for as long as they would give it. I used to work in the motor trade and did have a customer drop off a car once, first thing they said when I told them I would have to do a vehicle inspection before I took the keys was 'The computer in the car will record where it has been and how fast you have been driving' and his manner was rather bad. As memory serves it was an M3 company car - nothing special.

Compared to the time I picked up a Merc SLR McLaren from an old boy and the convo went like this:

Customer: How old are you?
Me: 24, but I am the manager of the branch, I would not want to send one of the lads who might not take as much care of your car as me.
C: You are insured to drive this?
Me: Yeah, of course, we have company third party insurance and if I wreck your car, it comes off my P&L account. That would kill my profit for the year and I would probably get the sack and the company might sue me for the cost of the car.
C: OK, I bring it back in three days (it was a 4 hour job)
Me: Oh, I will have it back by 5 pm
C: Son, when I was 24, if someone had offered me this car for 3 days, I would be phoning up all my ladyfriends and taking them out. I know if you crash it it will be fixed. Make sure the seats are clean when you bring it back.

On that he walked away. If only every customer was like that.

Back on topic OP, what do you want one for? Could see how it could be useful if your car was damaged while you were not around.
