Right, I've ended up with a used Excel D16 Pillar drill

Seems a decent bit of kit for the money, it is a double belt drive jobbie which I am unfamiliar with, problem is it was dismantled for me to transport and the belts removed. I really need to know how to set them up initially, then adjusting for speed. All I can assume is that the opposed same sized pulleys are used at each end, if you understand my 'logic'.
Any info on the drill will be much appreciated, servicing, things to look out for, and suppliers of parts, should the need arise.

By double belt do you mean the motor drives an intermediate pulley via one belt, and a second belt drives the quill from the intermediate pulley?

If so, choose the pullies so that the belts are always parallel to the pullies and the intermediate pulley is always more or less in the same place.

The belts are tensioned by moving the intermediate pulley and clamping it in place.

The slowest speed will be :-

belt 1 between smallest motor pulley and biggest inter. pulley
blet 2 between smallest inter pulley and biggest quill pulley

Fastest speed :-

belt 1 between largest motor pulley and smallest inter. pulley
blet 2 between largest inter pulley and smallest quill pulley

It should have a plate with the speeds / belt positions on the side somewhere. that will show you where to put the belts. But all you need to know is that they must always be horizontal (no sloping up/down from one pulley to another).

You won't need parts, but Excel still exist anyway.

All will become clear when it arrives.
