Hi guys, I really just need someone to back up my calculations before I go and buy some RHS.
I need to make a load of metal sleeves, they are not load bearing as they are to be parts of a jig.
The existing sleeve I have is 28.4mm outside diameter, 22.5mm bore and 60mm long.
The outside diameter is not important, but the bore is as it has to fit a steel pin snugly.
My local steel stockist has some stock of RHS with outside diameter of 26.9mm and wall thickness of 3mm.
By my calculations, this means the bore of the stock is around 20.9mm and could easilly be opened out on my lathe without much trouble, still leaving just over 2mm thick walls.
Can someone just confirm this?
Sorry to confuse, RHS meaning Round hollow section, not rectangular hollow section.
Yes I know it's the wrong term
