rewiring motor?

Here's the motor from my little myford lathe.

I'm mounting it in a different location now, and I need it to turn the other way around.

Do you guys reckon it's possible to achieve with the terminals as shown in the pics?

thats an oldie u cant reverse it it only has one pair of leads out u need 2 pair to reverse the windings to alter rotation be cheaper to get one of ebay than take it in and get it altered

Call a company called Embassy Services. They rewind/repair my stator motors

Same 1/3hp motor i had 20 years ago on mine, replaced with a Brook Crompton 1hp and transformed the lathe to something barely useable.
Will need to rewire the Dewhurst forward/reverse switch and move contacts around to suit - pain had to do it twice.
The machine Mart will fit also, cheaper than paying for a proper rebuild and pretty good.

Same wiring layout on my mop polisher 3hp and same trouble, spins 6000rpm opposite direction - brill hang on to part, no flying round the workshop bouncing off numerous walls.

am i right in thinking that if I buy one of the machine mart ones, for example, i should be able to wire it up to a switch somehow to change direction?

I.e. so that I can have a "forward / reverse" button?

yes u can reverse the machine mart motors u would need either a rotary switch a drum switch or a relay to reverse it all quite expensive

Allthough myfords used to supply a dewhirst rotary drum switch for reversing, it's not really good practice to run in reverse as the spindle nose is a screw fitting for the chucks & faceplates & they can easily become loose if your not carefull[disastrous if screwcutting]

search ebay shops for 'electric motor man' he sells motors and forward reverse swiches very reasonably.
