Revs problem

Sons field car,every so often it loses its ability to respond to the accelerator,so just idles,there’s limited visibility under the dashboard but I guess it’s electronically controlled,the bulkhead,engine side has no cable emerging,but there is a small multi pin plug.
It starts easily. Any ideas? @premmington ? Thanks.

Without pluggin it in with a diagnostic scanner.

It will be all guess work and manual testing with a multimeter.

Coincidence,my bil left his discovery here a year ago,now he’s collecting it next week I’ve charged the battery,so he keeps going in to start it,told him NO WAY.

I've 'stepped away' from several vehicle-based forums because of this, people are eager to fire the parts cannon repeatedly on guesses, but usually respond along the lines of 'I don't have a DTC reader / I'll see if I can borrow a DTC reader' when inevitably someone asks what DTC's are logged - usually a basic reader will cost less than their first firing of the parts cannon.
Sometimes, the cause of the fault is a poor connection, water ingress or chafed harness (also possible in the OP's case), which is often found by accident or after replacing many components, sometimes the same one several times after someone points out the reason fleabay parts are £2 and the OEM part is £40....
