Returning a BOC bottle

Finally decided that BOC are robbing bar stewards and moved over to a rent free bottle.

The shop I originally picked my bottle up from doesn't exist, but their is a Ernest Doe about 10 miles away which supplies bottles.

Can I use any shop to return or has it got to be where I got it from?

Do I have to anything in particular to cancel my contract with BOC or just go to the shop and hand it over?

Invoice for the coming year is due on Tuesday, nothing like last minute.

Trouble is, I am in work tomorrow at 9am and need to get it to Ernest doe by 8.30. BOC customer service don't appear to start till 9. Was hoping someone on here may have been through similar.

It's all computerised these days.

Where ever you return the bottle will issue you a reciept for the bottle against your account number.

Any BOC depot or BOC agent will be fine to return the bottle. You'll get the paperwork to confirm it has been returned.
I would ring the 0800 number to confirm you want to close the account.

Can you instruct your bank to not pay them.

Heard story different gas supplier would take any BOC cylinders he was given, when lorry full he took them to their depot. Did it for several years, then one day BOC accused him of stealing them, so he never bothered after that.

As above don't bother ringing BOC, ring your bank and cancel the D/D, if you don't they (BOC) will take the money and tell you it was too late to stop it.
Then take the bottles back to any BOC dealer........

How old is the bottle? Assume it has a barcode collar round the neck. Should be able to take it to any supplier. But boc will still make it difficult and not sure stopping payment will be any cheaper or easier for you. You need to stick rigidly to their timeline rules!
They'll use any excuse to squeeze extra out of you.

And we I have the same issue with BOC here in NZ.
Costs through the roof and painful top deal with, this started years ago
I have gone with Bunnings who are owned by Wesfarmers and they own a welding gas company in NZ.
Access to argon, CO2/Argon, oxygen and acetylene bottles 7 days a week and at least 12 hours a day.
I buy the bottle and pay for a fill and when I take need a refill I take it back and they give me a newly filled bottle.
No messing around getting my bottles refilled and the company deciding not to fill my bottle becuase it is out of test or scratched

Bottle offloaded this morning. Will phone tomorrow to confirm closure of my account. Not on direct debit.
Bottle had a bacode, so pretty quick in the end.

I cancelled my DD about five years ago. Only had a Y size cylinder. Returned the reminder letters marked "not known at this address". Never heard any more, and cylinder is still here

I needed some oxygen once (pre-barcode days) for work as I was stuck with an empty bottle and only a little bit of burning to do. I went to a local BOC depot and asked them if I could fill up a work bottle on my personal account. "Yes no problem" they said then later in the month billed me 70 quid for a years rental for that oxy bottle that wasnt mine. Had to fight to get the money back but I did eventually but got it as credit which I didn't need. This was a long time ago when money was tight they put me into overdraft got billed for that and then billed for a non-payment for a bill because of the 70 quid they took not being there.

When not accounted for they refer to them as rogue bottles, just drop them off at any BOC depot and they will deal with the admin.
