Retractable awning/canopies. Any good

Ive always fancied a bit of a covered area in front of the garage for welding/grinding/painting etc, as Ive not much room in the garage for the car.
I cant put a fixed car port up as the antenna mast tilts down for servicing etc.

Ive been given one of those amazon chinese canopy things, in a barney the dinosaur shade of purple, and am pondering whether to mount it over the garage doors. (Its wide enough to mount the brackets on the brickwork at the sides of the cladding over the doors

Was wondering if they are actually of much use for keeping the weather off (high winds excepted), or are they purely a sun shade, and I should exchange it for beer money before I waste my time putting it up ?

I have one on my workshop/garage..very handy if you need a bit of rain shelter if a vehicle is hanging out plus my main door faces south and i can have the roller shutter right up but be in shade in summer. I say keep and fit it as once fitted it costs nothing to feed

Cheers. Still undecided. I suppose i could give it a go an if it looks like ive turned my garage into a pontins chalet (its probably actually tidier) then its only 4 holes to fill
