In BT we had the ARC the Area Repair Centre , once the bean counters got wind of it , it was closed as uneconomical and not commercially viable . The guys in it were repairing & servicing like mad the ancient uni-selectors & associated Strowerger ( sp?) exchange equipmentI recon I'm fixing around £10k worth of equipment a week, so around half a million a year I recon they consider me to be value for money for two days a week pay.
If I was younger are cared more, I'd resign, employ the other guy and set up a business service doing the same thing.
I started to dream of a day off

Last time I was working in Peterborough District Hospital in Midland road there were two unused wards stuffed to the ceilings with all manner of kit that didn't work & in need of decontamination in a lot of cases. as it was cheaper & more reliable to get a new latest up to date one than pay for technicians , stocks of spares and office space etc. etc. to repair it & still have component failure concerns on repaired kit that has no warrantee on it .
Not true of every trust! 26 of us bio-med engineers in our trust covering 3 sites, it’s full on busy job, day in day out, every thing from thermometers to scanners. And look at the state of the NHS now, spending out of control and record waiting lists. Fuse blown in the plug of that MRI machine, no bother, buy a new MRI.
tilting agitation rocker: The small drivebelt needs replacing and looks like around the bearings and drive gear needs checking/cleaning too. Maybe causing strain and so the resistor has burnt out.Yes, it's the bridge, what I've found is that with 90% of the mains equipment, it's the PSU that has failed. With a bit of luck I'll get the schematic next time I'm in the workshop.
I've been medically retired aged 44 yrs old since 4 Sept 1995 .. getting used to it now . Wagers are not a [patch as to what I have been earnig but with several pensions it's not so nb=bad since we knocked th mortgage onthe head about 1 6 yrs ago .Retirement is grand……… wages pants, no holidays, and the boss is 24/7…..I was 6 years on Feb 18th.
Most important thing about retirement, doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you do something!
I would imagine they have a medical electronics dept, we do in our Health Board (different name for NHS Trust for those who are east of Offas Dyke) but it's now called EBME, Electrical and Biomedical EngineeringHmmm, you've opened my eyes to a potential part time retirement job now - West Wales general not far away from here, maybe 2 days fixing and callibrating might be ok...
