Hello everybody, I've been searching all over the internet but can't seem to find a straight answer and I realised I had a forum account on here. Anyway I've just bought a new SGS 24litre 9.6CFM air compressor and a Bergen HVLP 1.4 clear/basecoat spray gun the reason being that my cars clear coat is failing on the bonnet and pillars which is common on these cars being a Fiat Punto mk2 2007 in Caribbean Orange the failing clear coat only seems to effect this colour anyway I've got some experience in paint spraying as I used to fabricate gates and railings and I was taught to spray them with an expensive electrostatic system. Now the problem is as I don't have much experience on cars only repairs I have done before with aerosols which turned out pretty decent. I've pressure washed all the laquer of the bonnet so it's now matt, what should I do now? Sand the base coat with 2000 or similar grit sandpaper or just go ahead and spray the 1k clear coat on? (Would rather no use 2k, as I don't own a air fed mask). And should sand the edges of the laquer on the pillars and spray a few light coat to seal the old laquer edges down? Any advice or suggestions welcome, it would be appreciated
Thanks guys
