My Mahindra MM540 has been "lifted" by a previous owner with 2" sections of box section fitted between the shackle mount and chassis. I'm currently removing these to revert as standard. That means the chassis is supported on axle stands and shackle end of the springs are loose. When the weight of the vehicle is on the springs they are virtually flat whereas when detached as at present there is a nice curve.
I assumed the springs had settled and intended getting them reset but now am wondering if that would make any difference. After years of Land Rovers I'm used to duff leaf springs and the Mahindra items are visually in excellent condition, No build up of rust between leaves nor ridges where leafs have rubbed against each.
Normally, with Land Rover, I'd simply buy replacements but that isn't so easy, or cheap, with a Mahindra even though Jeep CJ5 items should fit !
I assume they don't loose their "spring" so can't think why they are curved unloaded and flat loaded.
What's the opinion then - is it worth getting the current springs reset ?
Cheers.
