same here so Paul might be spot on .......its just the spanner flange has me confused.
since the chucks knackered. a nice slim spanner and maybe a descent allen key in the chuck and another spanner on that. Theres a tendancy to stick the chuck key in and hit it with a hammer!!!!!!Big stillsons as well.

You don't want to hold the shaft while hitting the chuck,you need a little friction when hitting the chuck key.
Heat the chuck up with a good heat source then stick the chuck key in the chuck and wack it/sharpblow. with a hammer

Have had problems getting chucks off Bosch drills in particular. They tend to be very tight - possibly Loctited. I would recommend slow steady pressure on the spanner flange ( rather than a sharp blow ), with the chuck clamped in a vice, and maybe heat too.
That worked a treat. No heat and not a massive amount of pressure although I did use a bar on the spanner. Weird how it did not move when I used a sledge and spanner....lol
