Replacement wiper material

Looking for suggestions on a source of material to replace hard and brittle slide wipers. Adcock and Shipley 1ESG.

Um. I had to purchase a whole square meter of pressed gray sheep to renew 4 wipers. And of course, I found felt in Poland.

The pic looks like rubber? I guess it could be felt where old oil has polymerised..

Mine only had wipers on the main ways. A metal retainer screwed into the slide, holding oiled felt to the ways. I copied this for cross slide and tailstock. The felt, I used Lidl stuff, sticky backed ones intended as furnature protectors or something.

Looks very much like rubber. Hard too. Can't see it doing any good at all in its current state. I'm wondering whether I even need wipers if I have covers. Mill has one shot oiling.

I use felt on my 280 - originals were plastic and Boxford themselves have given up on it and gone back to felt. I did see an article also saying a mixture of felt and rubber sheet was a very good option, the felt to keep the oil in and rubber sheet to act as a wiper to remove swarf. Going to try it sometime.

Brian at Blue Diamond Machinery told me to use nitrile rubber or neoprene. It doesn't go off with age, its easy to cut and fit, and it lasts well.

100% wool felt in tasteful bright orange. Two layers of 4mm thick (8mm total).
