Hi all
After a bit of advice please, I have a 7/8 ID crank protector sleeve that has hairline cracks in the open end, would this be repairable by mig? I was hoping to v out the crack and weld but I am conscious that it is likely hardened or some sort of other steel as it is subject to quite a bit of load from a hardened bolt and doesn't mark at all. I obviously want to avoid altering its structure too much. The other option is for me to try and get someone with a lathe to make a collar I could heat up to expand and fit that then shrinks to a tight fit.
It is the sleeves you see in this pic to give rough idea
Cheers
