Repairing an antique garden urn

Hopelessly out of my depth with this embarrassingly, but anyone got any ideas on how / if repairs to this garden urn are possible?

There are also various other cracks which look like they will become a new problem unless addressed. It has sentimental value, so wouldn't mind saving it.

I think an epoxy glue (sp 106 ?), would be my weapon of choice for that.

Id agree and maybe some slits cut across the joint for like biscuit jointing using something like a coin.

The cracks showing could be an issue in winter with rain water freezing….opening up the cracks

I've done plant pots with epoxy and they've lasted very well but they have a glaze which visually matches the epoxy.

I'm wondering if the chemical masonry adhesives might be a better choice...the sort of stuff used to glue wall bolts in (search for resin fix). Might even have room for couple of threaded rods to hold it together.

Also....prepare yourself for "greek earn" jokes

I've used epoxy chemical anchor to stick stuff like that.
It works well but make sure you remove any green or other contamination.

For the cracks, I'd use a low viscosity epoxy crack repair product, it will get pulled deep into the cracks and seal them, but will probably change the look for the urn which might not be what you want.

wonder if the '' glue '' out of a couple of chemical anchor bolts would get you up and going , maybe drill a couple of small holes and use some thread bar as dowel ,, just a thought

Bring it inside a workshop, let it dry out for about 4 weeks.
Wash and scrub well with warm water and moss killer, allow to dry.

Assemble to the parts and temp fit them into place and mark alignment points.
During this stage you need to make a assembly stage plane, which parts to fix first.

Mark up and drill three holes in each part. I used 8mm bits to take 6mm stainless rods..

With a 2 pack metal glue, fix the SS rods into place. On one side of the break.

Warm the stone and mix up enough glue, I use a Garilla glue for stone. Also mix up the 2 pack metal glue and get it ibto the pre drilled holes.

Glue the parts and tape, strap anything that will hold the parts in place until the glue sets.

Repeat until done.

Place out side.
It will soon weather.

The chemical anchor resin I've used has lumps in it, which would tend to keep the repaired parts of cracked earthenware slightly apart.

great explanation @The_Yellow_Ardvark. I would be making a frame to hold the pieces against gravity

if your using gorilla glue you have to spray or wet one side of the component for it to bond properly acording to there instructions and tightly hold together as it expands if u dont and the joint pushes apart

Yes, and visually, the cracks would be more obvious.

There are different types of Gorilla glue. The aardvark didn't specify which one

I would also attempt to, with a diamond tile bit, drill the front of the cracks.

I don't think steel dowels are necessary as the resins are so good now, it wouldn't hurt I suppose but make sure it doesn't mess up your alignment.

If applied properly the concrete will fail well before the resin bond.
