Repairing a cracked manifold in Sweden. Advice?

I’m doing a lot of work on classic Renaults and parts are often difficult to find.

Cracked exhaust manifolds are not unusual on the 90s engines, some vehicles have been scrapped when the owners gave up.

Any advice for repairing these?

Bonus points if you know anyone in Sweden that can do the repair

Grind the crack to open it out a bit, then heat soak the manifold once hot (200 deg c approx), braze up the crack control the cooling time (very slowly) and then resurface/mill the gasket face.

Anyone with a big roofers torch and Oxy/Ace or Tig should be able to do it, fire blankets/sand box to control the cooling or better still a very understanding wife who will allow you to use the oven for several hours, temperature step cooling......................

Or just book the wife a weekend away with her mates.......



There's always a chance someone might know someone in Sweden, but it's a fairly large country, your location might help????.......

I fixed a fordV4 Corsair cracked manifold with a nickel rod. It was cracked on the top so ground out a vee, ran the motor for 1/4 hour then welded. I kept it 5 years without re-cracking. The expensive pure nickel rods are machineable with HSS, cheap ones with iron in will give a very hard weld that will only grind.

if the wife wont allow it in the oven ive seen people set up a make shift fire with a couple of bags of charcoal to warm it , then cool it off in some sand
