Repainting a bathtub…….

Ok now for summat different, before we begin I used to be a refinisher by trade so I’m pretty clued up in most cases regarding paints.
I’ve watched a YouTube video on repainting a bathtub and they used an epoxy 2k called Ekopel bathroom refinishing kit. Now is that any different to general industrial coatings and vehicle paints as climate in a bathroom or wet room is a little different?
There were also a few vids on brush application but I can’t see that looking professional

Can't see any paint being as durable as the original enamel finish!

SWMBO repainted the cast iron tub in our first house as it was stained. That and the tub was so heavy I couldn't get it down the stairs on my own. Came out amazingly well. Redid it some years later as from memory it was getting a bit tatty round the plughole/edges where the seals were. Bought the same kit again.

Where we are now she did the whole suite, WC pan, basin and bath before I gutted the bathroom. Again it came out surprisingly well.

I imagine / hope a professional refinishing service would be better again.

Indeed. I seem to recall SWMBO masked off and painted up to the silicon rubber flap / side seals. It was good but eventually started coming away there.

On a powder group I saw someone coat a toilet... Seemed a terrible idea to me, but that's a toilet and it was powder.

From @Onoff 's experience it would seem sensible to take off the fittings and make sure the coverage went under any of them, rather than just up to them.

I might find the powdercoated toilet post and ask for an update.

A friend of mine who owns some HMOs had the baths done by a company and they came out beautiful. They looked brand new. They masked the whole room and bath, sealed the door and sprayed them.

Trying to get a cast iron bath down the stairs reminds me of the first house we bought. It wouldn’t go out of the doorway as it had been altered, so I decided to smash it with a sledge hammer. Closed the door, took a mighty swing and…………. I know how Quasimodo felt. It didn’t break fist go. The bells the bells!

I scored the last one with a grinder thinking it would then shatter if I flicked it... Many whacks with a sledge hammer later I realised my naievity.

And yet drop somthing cast that you care about and it's in pieces instantly!

I built our bathroom walls after the bath went in. It can be someone elses problem if it ever needs to come out again.

A retired sprayer I knew used to paint baths for people in ordinary 2 pack & reckoned it came out ok. I had my doubts, but apparently it lasted.

I have painted old Caravan shower trays and toilets white after they had gone the horrible brown colour caused by the sun light, never had any issues

She reckoned people used cleaning products that were too abrasive and left swirl marks in the powder, which got worse over time, eventually looked **** and then they got a call saying the coating had gone bad. Got fed up of stripping and re coating baths for nowt.

She also said if people were dirty, like mud and grime dirt, when they got in the bath that contributed to abrading the coating.

Just too much grief for not enough reward she seemed to think.

I couldn't work out the toilet thing as it was in a commercial venue also, and they were hot coating ceramics, so, pretty much, line of sight.

So there would be a break under water, just where all the cleaning chemicals sit.

In another life I worked for nightclubs and people are even s#itter than they normally are when they're drunk, and the amount of abuse a toilet in a nightclub would get would never stand up, I'm sure.

It just seemed like a whole stupid idea to me. But then I don't much like powder anyway.
