Hi all
My mate (our drummer
) has a N-reg Renault Traffic van which is our gigging wagon. It failed its MOT the other day on (amongst other things - brake pipe, track rod end ball joint, rear brakes don't work) lots and lots of rust.
Here is the list of stuff that's gone. He's asking me what I can do for him as he's a bit skint at the moment, I have little welding experience but I'm fairly confident I can do stuff like sills and arches (been practicing with the arc on thin metal) - I'm more worried about the suspension mounting stuff.
Also where does one obtain replacement sills/wheel arches from?
Here's the list anyway. I've not had a look at the van yet but can anyone offer me some advice on what these things actually mean and what will need doing?
Cheers.
Rear (wheel arch) Body has a sharp edge caused by corrosion
Nearside rear (Outer sill within prescribed area of leaf spring) suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded
Nearside rear upper (shock absorber mount) suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded
offside (outer sill at front) vehicle structure has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings
Would he be better off just scrapping it? It's an old van and isn't worth much, but he uses it for work too and he'll be a bit stuck without it.
Failing that, anyone in the north-west area who will be able to do it relatively cheaply?
