Renault 4 ignition

Hi All, esp Malcolm

Local friend has a nice Renault 4 Clan, but is having trouble with the ignition. I suggested electronic, when he showed me a box of duff distributors.
I looked around on the web and found a US co., Hot-Spark, that sells kits for Ducellier. Anybody had experience and is there a UK agent?
Or, any other suggestions?

Hi Kempi, might be worth contacting Accuspark, as far as I know, English. Don't know if they do a kit I've used Luminition years ago, good but expensive. Just looked on the web quickly & it seems that they have several types available, once again don't know for a Renault though.

123 ignition do a complete replacement distributor which means the advance curve is right (worn springs can cause half the trouble). classicautoelec in France is the cheapest place to buy them. I have the programmable version I can plug a laptop into.

Worth a search of www.renault4.co.uk/forum People stick various things in.

how bad are the distributors? There are companies that rebuild them and sell bits that advertise in all the classics car mags, There must be somone in a french car magazine?

Well, that was quick and informative, thank you, I will chase up the leads. I am a bit rusty on 4s, as I sold my last one around 18yrs ago. I have noticed a couple of 2CVs languishing in a barn nearby and have to slap my wrist as I go past.
