The alloy wheels on my Discovery have steel wheel nuts covered with a stainless sleeve.
I assume the steel has rusted as the stainless covers have swollen so it's not possible to get the proper sized wheel brace on any more. Whilst I can find a suitable larger socket it still isn't a good fit as the bulge is in the middle of the cover so there is only a small contact area.
Simple answer is remove the stainless cover but I'm not sure how to go about it. Obviously they won't come off without some brute force.
Before I waste a load of time (there are 20 nuts) has anyone a trick they want to share about removing the covers ? I'm thinking of filing the edges until weak enough to be prised apart with screwdriver.
Cheers.
