removing other paint that's on top of 2k?

Another landrover question -

The 110 has been painted with cow print by the previous owner Its black paint that has been brushed on over the original white.

It can, in places, be scratched off with a finger nail - but the job is way too large for that to be a solution in itself!

Here is an example -

Any suggestions on the easiest way too remove it, without disturbing the original (1994) paint job below (ie the white paint)?

Jet wash? But there's no guarentee you won't damage the original paint or get it all off.

as above but you may get an easier option with a steam cleaner. personnaly iwould try cellulose thinners. if it is original factory coat, i wont attack the substrate. as a test, put some celly (or nail varnish remover) on a cloth and rub the black off, if the white doesnt go sticky, youre laughing, get a 5l tin of standard cellulose spirit (gun wash to pro's), should be about a tenner. BTW dont get celly on any plastic parts/lenses etc.

that's the kind of thing i was thinking - a selective solvent. i just didnt know which one.

the solvents i have to hand right now (as in on a bank holiday) are some screen wash (not cars - silk screen printing) which may do the job, and some thinners, also for silk screening - ill use them on one of the doors that's comming off anyhow, and see if i cant take the white paint off with them.

if i cant, ill go for the black.

i have no idea what screen wash is but i believe the correct chemical name for gunwash is toluene. i stand happy to be corrected

soda blasting can remove a layer at a time with the right equipment and experience

the other way would be wet n dry 800 wet flat until its very thin then machine polish the rest off
