removing large quantities of GAL

i scored my self some 80x80 plates today 10mm thick to practise welding on. however they are galvanized. any way of removing it quickly. i was thinking putting them in a bucket of hydro chloric acid and leave them over night?

Do it outside, wear gloves and goggles, have plenty of water at hand.

It'll take 5 minutes or so (depending on strength of the acid). Just wait till the initial fast frothing is finished and rinse off twice.

I second the acid. I use Muratic Acid avail at any hardware store. It won't eat your skin but do watch your eyes, but i would wear rubber gloves anyway. Use hot water for the rinse and even some baking soda will help it from keep eating the metal...Bob
