Removable gate post material size?

One of my next projects is going to be a set of gates for the drive, so people don't drive in at silly O-clock in the morning or mistake it for the green lane next turning up.

the gates are going to be 13ft wide about 5ft high in RHS with wood hit and miss panelling, was going to do uneven split, one side would be about 8-9ft permanent, but the shorter side will need to be removable, so we can get the septic tank and heating oil lorry's in.

so what i was thinking, 100mm SHS post maybe 5mm wall, with the gate able to come of the hinge.
Anyone done this sort of post before, and what size post to put in the ground?
Was thinking of 120 x 120 x 8, theoretically the 100box Should fit inside, but have had fun like that before,
Any pointers, thoughts & pics much appreciated.

Yes, I think you'll need to sketch it out to show the plan in context to include terrain etc..

use split gates no need for them to be removed

i prefer a full over the top gate post like this

depending on access you could go down byfold gates

That was a consideration, but the gates would be 20ft down the driveway, so would end up with the gates poking into the front garden when open.

you can use telescopic gates on both sides of the opening

the more telescopic they are reduces there size

With SHS, you may need to consider the corner radius as well as the wall thickness. How long in time will the post be in place before removal? Consider if it corrodes in place or the socket becomes full of water/mud.
