Remote workshop. Intercom?

When I was a mere lad and still at home at my mums she used to quickly flick the power switch off to the garage killing the lights if the phone rang or dinner time,
not the safest thing as she often forgot to turn the lights back on leaving me in the dark!

Don't fancy that much; words would be spoken if the power was cut while I'm in the middle of turning something delicate, putting a finish turn on or anything involving expensive unobtanium or a difficult to replace part.

I use a cordless doorbell. easier to hear than the mobile and sometimes I forget the mobile as I am going there not to be pestered...
