Remote gearchange assembly

I'd welcome any suggestions, personal experience or photos to help me make a remote gearchange assembly for an Austin 7, circa 1932. This is what I've made, so far. There is some PTFE material between the sliding washers so it is quite smooth yet not floppy.

How has anyone else done it?
I also need to make one for the Morris 1000 with the Alta engine so I will be playing around with the designs quite a bit.

Any help would be most appreciated!

I have planned something similar on my A7 but mine is going to bolt directly to the top of the gearbox in place on the gear selector cover.
My design involves a shaft in a tube as the selector.
My only concern is that 1 and 2 will be in opposite places, likewise 3 and 4. So in effect pulling the stick back will give you first gear.

The americans have used rod linkages for years on their manual gearboxes,
Heres mine on a muncie gearbox in my 66 chevy nova,
All new and a performance version of the original.

Hi Rob, I had a similar sort of thing on an old Ford special I built, except the swivel on the bottom used a small track rod end with the lever fitted to the ball bit. Then a rod with a fork end on both ends went forward to the gear lever, the gear lever & the new lever had a short tube welded horizontally, which mated up to a fork ends fitted on the rod. Bit difficult to explain, but it worked very well, looked a little bit less 'mighty' than a steering swivel.

Some photos of a TVR linkage I took some years ago. Two spherical joints and the front one slides in the tube. Gearlever is two 7/16" UNF bolts welded head to head bolted into a bonded bush offset to one side of the linkage.
