remote control light switch

Hi again
Any leccies fitted any remote control light switches for outside lights, the type of zapper for gates garage doors etc but to switch my outside lights, with a timer on it so that it can switch on all 5 lights in one go then reset its self back to the 4 pirs. coz when I pull up at the house on the road (its about 20mtrs) to the house with the car trailer on the pirs doesnt 'see' the trailer and I have to reverse in blind by memory or also the wife when she arrives after only traveling 1/4 ml with a cold car . I would like a radio type switch for all the cars to switch a relay for all the lights, whilst driving up to the house.

Can you not just wire in a standalone PIR near the entrance wired up to the circuit on the lights, I think it will work on its own luminence and keep the lights on for how ever long you set the timer.?
Just wired this into my circuit as similar problem to you, now it detects from exiting the house and entrance to bottom of drive, solved my problem watch the wattage loading.

Hi normspanners we fitted exactly what you are after 4 channel remote switch you can put as many remotes on it as you want but they were not cheap I can't find the invoice for it but I will find out on Monday if that helps. We used it for garden lighting, got a feeling it was from city electrical!

I had thought of that re putting apir looking sideways but when reversing the trailer, it is cold, so not seen by the pir and the rear being nearly 30 ft from me in the mirrors I have already reversed in by the time the car is seen by the pir especially when raining I have to reverse by memory which is ok but when there are 4-5 cars in the drive plus other things it can be a little difficult, when I sometimes only have 3-4 ins extra width space, If I put the pir facing out then it will switch, on every hot car that passes.
the idea is to swtich the light as i am approaching then the light will flood out of my gateway illuminating the hole to back into.

An alternative would be a photosensor as used on factory machines, conveyors etc... a sensor emits an infrared beam that is reflected back to it by a small mirror. Anything breaking the beam trips the sensor's output and can be used to switch whatever you want.
In this application, sensor on one fence post, mirror on a post opposite, as soon as the rear of the trailer breaks the beam, the floodlights come on.
It'd also work with foot traffic as well so any thieving gyppos would be lit up like xmas long before they got near the house - and the postie would probably thank you on dark mornings.
Set it up high enough from the floor so foxes, cats etc. wouldn't break the beam.
It could be tied into a light level sensor so the floods don't come on during the day.

Gate openers and the RX units are fairly cheap. Work up to 100 mtrs or so. You could link the RX to a latching relay so one click on, & one for off

Yep that could work but would mean running cable down the tarmac drive, mind I do have 70 ft eco drain running down drive would only need a small cut at each end, so could lay it in that I suppose.

Fitting a set of gates at around 400mtrs from a house, so out of range of the radio units, for visiters who didn't have remotes I fitted a coil in the road inside the gates. Bits were cheap and just cut the slot with an angle grinder. The gate phone also did the job, but the coil saved the owner from looking out to see if the leaving car had reached the gates. Could work for your lights.
That GSM unit looks interesting, but not cheap. And you need more bits. A cheap phone could do it for much less.
